This set reminds us of Kintsugi 'joining with gold' (kin is 'gold' and tsugi is 'join'). It is a centuries-old Japanese repair technique which uses urushi (Japanese lacquer) dusted with powdered gold to restore broken ceramic and porcelain vessels.
